- Fun fact: African "Chai" Spice Coffee was the first coffee we ever sold by Kahawa! It's inspired by a traditional Kenyan coffee drink known as "Kahawa Chungu." The East African coast lies on the Indian Ocean and was the center of the ancient spice trade. Traveling spice traders stopped in Kenya to relax and enjoy coffee mixed with spices.
